PBL Teacher Academy: A Comprehensive Student-Led Project Based Learning Training Program
PBL Teacher Academy is ALL YOU NEED to learn about and implement student-led project-based learning in your classroom or homeschool.
This digital project based learning course is for educators and parents who are bored and discouraged by the same old one-size-fits-all model and are looking for a big (but easy) change.
You want to see passion, joy, and curiosity every single day, and know you can get that with student-led PBL, but need a little guidance, some strategies, resources, and clear systems to make that transition super simple and seamless for everyone.

Is this PBL Teacher Academy applicable to all grade levels?
PBL Teacher Academy is geared toward middle and high school students. I have found that student-designed and student-led project-based learning experiences are the most successful with upper elementary (5th&6th), middle, and high school students.
The project-based learning framework is the same regardless of age and skill level. Project-based learning culture, PBL design, the PBL execution process, and the implementation strategies that I cover in this course apply across the board.
My own young (5&7) children do PBLs all the time, but those PBLs are designed and led by me. I determine an authentic presentation, I connect with community experts, I help my kids with research. They do have input, but they do not design and lead their own PBLs, which is really what this course is about.
So, with that said, I highly recommend this project based learning course for 5th graders and older. If you would like to discuss this with me, please feel free to reach out.

How long will it take me to complete this course?
There is a total of six hours of video time in this PBL course. PBL Teacher Academy is released all at once and can be completed at your own pace.
You could watch all of the videos in just one weekend, and spend the following week taking action on what you learned.
Or you can spread out the videos. I call it a "3-week" course because I will be available in the private Facebook group for three weeks and will do three weekly live Q and As.
If you would like to pace yourself over the course of three-weeks, I suggest the following approach:
Week 1: Module 1 (culture-building)
Week 2: Module 2 (PBL design) and the Design Thinking Bonus Training
Week 3: Modules 3 (PBLs in Action), 4 (Assessments), and 5 (scaling PBL)

I don't have a lot of flexibility to leave the classroom with students. Is student-led PBL right for me and my students?
Absolutely. There are ways to work around that, which I discuss at length in PBL Teacher Academy.
I am a subject-based teacher that needs to adhere to standards. Is student-led PBL right for my students?
Yes, 100%. PBL Teacher Academy includes a lesson about designing student-led PBLs around standards, themes, subjects, etc. There are also a variety of theme and subject-based PBL designs sprinkled into the course.
How much class time do I need to set aside for student-led PBL? I have other lessons I need to get also.
Project-based learning is a sustained inquiry approach, so it does take some time, and that's a good thing!
With that said, you can dedicate as much of or as little of your learning day to PBL as you'd like. Student-led PBL can be a supplement to your current curriculum or be the curriculum itself. There are no rules around that.
I address the different structures and schedules that teachers and parents might be working with in PBL Teacher Academy.

I'm new to student-led project-based learning. Is PBL Teacher Academy going to be too overwhelming?
No! PBL Teacher Academy was designed to give you exactly what you need for student-led PBL, nothing more, nothing less.
This program provides a detailed roadmap for you to follow and includes all of the guiding materials that you and your students will need to launch student-led PBL so that you don't have to expend time and energy creating your own. I also show you exactly how to use these resources.
With that said, learning any new teaching approach can be a challenge and could feel overwhelming at times.

I'm worried my kids don't have the skills to design and lead their own PBLs. Is student-led PBL right for them?
Yes, yes, and yes! Student-led PBL is right for everyone! That's the beauty of it. And, you're right. Your students likely don't have the skills yet, but PBL Teacher Academy dedicates multiple modules and resources to helping them build those skills.
I do well with examples. Do you offer examples of student-led PBLs in PBL Teacher Academy?
Yes, lots and lots. I walk through three PBL design examples including a standards-based, interest-based, and elementary example. I visually demonstrate how to use most of the guiding materials and resources included in PBL Teacher Academy.
Will I need to purchase anything beyond what is included in this course to make student-led PBL work for us?
No! This course is comprehensive, so you do not have to take any other courses, purchase any other guiding materials (all included), or even buy any fancy classroom materials.
Your students can design PBLs around what materials and supplies are available to them. With that said, access to computers and the internet is helpful, especially if you don't have the flexibility to take kids out into the community.
