Is the member's community on Facebook? I'm not on Facebook so fear I'll be missing out.
The PBLTA member's community is NOT on Facebook! You have direct access to a community from your course member's portal. I do this for a couple of reasons, one of which is that not everyone has a Facebook account.
It's also much easier and streamlined to hop right into the community from where you're watching training videos. I don't know about you, but I struggle to bounce back and forth between a variety of apps, communities, and communication platforms. I just want it all in one place.
Finally, the member's community that I have now will always be there, versus my Facebook groups, which have always been temporary.

Do I get the full course all at once?
Yes. As soon as you enroll you will have access to all of the video lessons and guiding materials included in the core project-based learning course. This was intentional so that you can pace yourself.
Is PBL Teacher Academy applicable to all grade levels?
PBL Teacher Academy is geared toward middle and high school students. I have found that student designed and led project-based learning experiences are the most successful with upper elementary (5th&6th), middle, and high school students.
The project-based learning framework is the same regardless of age and skill level. Project-based learning culture, PBL design, the PBL execution process, and the implementation strategies that I cover in this course apply across the board. Project-based learning in itself is applicable to all ages and skill levels. Student-led PBL, on the other hand, requires some independence and certain skills.
My own young children (6&8) do PBLs all the time, but those PBLs are designed and led by me and we execute them together. The PBLs are teacher-led. I determine an authentic presentation, I connect with community experts, I help my kids with research. My children have input, but they need a lot more scaffolding and guidance than a middle schooler would need.
So, with that said, I highly recommend this project based learning course for those that work with 5th years and older. However, the framework of the course still applies to teacher-designed and guided project-based learning for those ages and skill-levels that require more direction. If you would like to discuss this with me, please feel free to reach out.

How long will it take me to complete this course?
There is a total of six hours of video time in this PBL course. PBL Teacher Academy is released all at once and can be completed at your own pace.
You could watch all of the videos in just one weekend, and spend the following week taking action.
Or you can spread out the videos. You will have lifetime access to this course and the materials included, so you can choose to take your time completing it.
If you spent just 30 minutes per day working through PBL Teacher Academy, you would complete the course in three weeks. If you would like to pace yourself over the course of three weeks, I suggest the following approach:
Week 1: Module 1 (culture-building)
Week 2: Module 2 (PBL design) and the Design Thinking Bonus Training
Week 3: Modules 3 (PBLs in Action), 4 (Assessments), and 5 (launching and scaling PBL)

I don't have a lot of flexibility to leave the classroom with students. Is student-led PBL right for me and my students?
Absolutely. There are ways to work around that, which I discuss at length in PBL Teacher Academy.
I am a subject-based teacher that needs to adhere to standards. Is student-led PBL right for my students?
Yes, 100%. PBL Teacher Academy includes a lesson about designing student-led PBLs around standards, themes, subjects, etc. There are also a variety of theme and subject-based PBL design examples sprinkled into the course.
How much class time do I need to set aside for student-led PBL? I have other lessons I need to do also.
Project-based learning is a sustained inquiry approach, so it does take some time, and that's a good thing!
With that said, you can dedicate as much of or as little of your learning day to PBL as you'd like. Student-led PBL can be a supplement to your current curriculum or be the curriculum itself. There are no rules around that. You customize project-based learning to your students and requirements.
I address the different structures and schedules that teachers and parents might be working with in PBL Teacher Academy.

I'm new to student-led project-based learning. Is PBL Teacher Academy going to be too overwhelming?
No! PBL Teacher Academy was designed to give you exactly what you need for student-led PBL, nothing more, nothing less. It is also self-paced, so you can take as much time as you need to get through the program. Some have finished in a weekend, others spread it out over the course of the school year.
This program provides a detailed roadmap for you to follow and includes all of the guiding materials that you and your students will need to launch student-led PBL so that you don't have to expend time and energy creating your own. I also show you exactly how to use these resources.
With that said, learning any new teaching approach can be a challenge and could feel overwhelming at times.

That is why PBL Teacher Academy:
- provides a private members community with the purpose of having ongoing support as you work through this course, whether that be tomorrow or a year from now
- includes 4 weeks of office hours to get all of your questions answered
- and promotes the development of collaborations so that you have a support group long after you have completed PBL Teacher Academy
I'm worried my kids don't have the skills to design and lead their own PBLs. Is student-led PBL right for them?
Yes, yes, and yes! Student-led PBL is right for everyone! That's the beauty of it. And, you're right. Your students likely don't have the skills yet, but PBL Teacher Academy dedicates multiple modules and resources to helping them build those skills. I have done project-based learning with all grade and skill levels.
I do well with examples. Do you offer examples of student-led PBLs in PBL Teacher Academy?
Yes, lots and lots. I walk through three PBL design examples including a standards-based, interest-based, and elementary example. I visually demonstrate how to use most of the guiding materials and resources included in PBL Teacher Academy.
Will I need to purchase anything beyond what is included in this course to make student-led PBL work for us?
No! This course is comprehensive, so you do not have to take any other courses, purchase any other guiding materials (all included), or even buy any fancy classroom materials.
Your students can design PBLs around what materials and supplies are available to them. With that said, access to computers and the internet is helpful, especially if you don't have the flexibility to take kids out into the community.
