Halloween Fundraisers

Raise money for learning activities this Halloween with these spooky and spirited student-led fundraisers:

Approaching holidays make great excuses to fund raise for your school or organization. People love Holidays. Get into the spirit of Halloween this year by organizing some fundraising events that are not only fun, but help you raise big money for your school.

  • 1) Student-led haunted house - design, create, execute. Charge a cover, organize games for kids, have a face painting station, and more! Check out this resource for tips - "Hosting a Haunted House High School Fundraiser". If you're not a high school, modify to fit your needs.
  • 2) Host a Halloween movie night - I love this one because it's easy and doesn't cost very much up front. The trick is getting people in the door. This resource has a "how-to plan a movie night fundraiser" guide, and they share what has worked well for them - Teens Changing the World: Fundraiser #1 Halloween Movie Night.
  • 3) Organize a Halloween fun run - this one would be quite the undertaking, but is one way to make big money while connecting with your community. It might also be tricky if you live in a place like Minnesota where it's already snowing on Oct 14th! Might have to locate an indoor track! Check out this resource for tips on how to plan a fun run - "How to Organize a 5K".  It's not specifically about a Halloween fun run, but you can easily put your spooky touches on it.
  • Have a Halloween treat inspired bake sale - there are so many fun Halloween themed bakery items. Kids love them, and let's be honest, so do adults! Make treats and rather than have a bake sale in isolation, add this fund raiser to a fund raising event you are already having, like the Halloween movie night for example. Check out my Pinterest board, "I Heart Holidays", for some fun Halloween treat ideas.
  • Have a car wash with students dressed in Halloween costumes - Ok, I have never done this and do not see that it has been done by anyone! Not online anyway. I just think it sounds awesome. I would totally get my car-washed by a skeleton. My own children would love it.
  • Halloween themed dinner - my mom used to do this for us every year when we were kids on Halloween. She would make Chili and call it "witch's brew". She'd add oyster crackers and call them "bat eggs" and so on. We loved it. It would be neat to host a fund raiser dinner at the school with that theme in mind.
  • Halloween themed pancake breakfast  - same ideas as the dinner, you just make the breakfast items Halloween themed instead of dinner. How about "zombie brains" for scrambled eggs?
  • Halloween pumpkin carving contest - I like this one because it could be done on the cheap and is fun for everyone, competitors and spectators. Have participants bring their own pumpkin to carve, and make the event free. Let people know that donations will be happily accepted. This resource is a simple step-by-step guide to planning a pumpkin carving contest - Jack O' Lantern Contest.
  • Halloween themed cook-off - I used to do cook-off fundraisers with my students when I was working. I never did a Halloween themed cook-off, but think adding the holiday spirit to the event would make it that much more successful. Pick a food item, chili is a popular one, host a competition, and add some Halloween flare.  Here is a good check-list to help you plan your cook-off. This particular resource is for hosting a bbq cook-off, but you can modify it however you'd like.

Happy Halloween, and happy fund raising!
